  第一誤區就是把五種技能學習變成單一的看懂。大家知道我們習慣上把英語學習分解成五項技能,聽說讀寫譯。這樣分解是否科學,在此暫且不論,有不少學習者往往把是否看懂當成學習的標準。比如說,拿到一本口語教材,翻開幾頁一看,都看懂了,就認為太簡單了,對自己不合適。這里的錯誤是把看懂代替了會說。看懂不等于會說。練習口語,內容不能難,目的是通過一些能看懂的內容來操練“上口”。也就是說,目的是讓學習者通過練習,自己能說出書中相關的內容。口語教材的優劣首先要看語言是否能學到,是否地道。

  第二誤區是把知識當成技能。打個比方,假如你想學騎自行車。我給你一本題目叫“如何騎自行車”的書,把書從頭背到底,甚至倒背如流。這時你有了專家級的關于如何騎自行車的知識。但是你肯定不會騎。原因是騎自行車不是簡單的知識問題,它首先是一項技能。要學會一項技能,核心問題是練,光有書本知識是不行的。學外語當然比學騎自行車要復雜得多,但它首先也是一項技能,光看語法書,默背單詞是遠遠不夠的。必須練,要把知識變

  成技能。知道不等于知道怎么做,知道怎么做不等于實際上會做。從知道怎么做到實際會做中間有個反復練習的環節,也就是苦功夫。學技能所遵循的原則是“做中得學”。

  第三個誤區是速成心理。必須認識到,要想學好英語,非得下一番苦功不可。世界上沒有一個外國成年人不下苦功就能學好英語的。所謂的“速成”純屬無稽之談。學好英語沒有捷徑,只有方法的好壞。比如記英語單詞,低著頭拼著命地默寫,這就不是一個好辦法。好的方法是大聲地朗讀,反復訓練發音器官和耳朵,把聲音銘刻在腦子里。這樣既可以提高聽力,又可以改進口語發音,還記了單詞。默寫只是訓練了眼睛和手,可是它們不能替你聽和說。

  先談自信心。如何樹立自信心有許多方法,我在這里強調的是不能傷了自己的自信心。一定不要過高要求自己,不能看到別人嘰里呱啦說英語,就覺得自己不行。要看到自己一點一滴的進步,要想到的是積沙成塔,積流成河,而不是一步登天。

  第二是決心。我們往往是多次下決心而從不付諸行動。所以大家在下決心的時候要把決心變成具體的學習計劃。如制定周、月和學期計劃 甚至是哪一個時間段應該學完什么內容都明確下來,通過這些計劃把決心變成行動。

  第三是毅力。毅力就是說不能三天打魚,兩天曬網。這是學好外語的大忌。我們今天學到的新東西,都是貯存在我們大腦的臨時記憶里。臨時記憶的東西有的只能保留幾秒鐘,最長的難以超過三天。假如你對貯存在臨時記憶里的東西不進行再利用(recycling)。把它們從臨時記憶貯存到長期記憶中,大腦就會把它們自動清除掉(因為大腦要保護它自己,不能把所有的臨時信息都存著)。所以,一定要有反復學習的毅力。這里說的反復學,不是說去機械地重復原來學的東西,而是創造性地使用學過的東西。如把原來的聽力變成朗讀,把原來的朗讀變成聽力等。

  第四是自我管理。你們中的許多人都是一身數任的人,有工作上的責任,有家庭上的責任,有親朋好友的人際關系上的責任,等等。這些責任如果處理不好,都將跟你們的學習發生沖突。所以自我管理的能力顯得特別重要。

  第五是自我約束的能力。你們中的許多人都是成年人,享有很高的自由度。在學習上你們沒有上課時間的約束和老師的約束,這既可以變成有利的條件,也可以變成不利的隱患。關鍵在你有沒有自我約束力。假如你是足球迷,你能抗拒住足球賽的誘惑而去做作業,你就有了自我約束力。
