  夢想是什么?是一眼泉水,一眼長流不息的泉水。朱熹有曰:“問渠那得清如許,為有源頭活水來。”所以說:夢想如泉是純潔的,不加一絲功利色彩。

  夢想是什么?是一座高而險的山。只有銳意進取,不懈奮斗,永不停息,才有可能登上最高最美的頂峰。

  夢想是什么?是一只海燕。在心靈的海面上驕傲的翱翔,是一種美、一種積極。

  夢想是什么?是一彎新月,是缺憾。不是所有的夢想都會實現,失望和不完滿才是它的大部分。正因為如此我們才努力讓它完滿、沒有缺憾。

  夢想是什么?是好多好多的山,過了這一座還有那一座,真是“正入萬山圈子里,一山放過一山攔。”但是,我們沒有放棄,我們深信在山的那邊,是海,是廣闊無邊的海。

  夢想是什么?是回環曲折的小路。常常會走出正確的路線,但只要把持住自己,就不會誤入歧途。

  夢想是什么?是虛無漂渺的天上的街市。也許它本身就很可笑,本身就不可能實現,但是在一個孩子的稚嫩的心田里,在一顆天真的純潔的童心面前,夢想是快樂、幸福和美好,是一種向往。

  夢想是什么?只有我們自己知道,只有自己體會的到。因為人生的路上,給我們許多感悟!

  今天我演講的主題是夢想。

  雄鷹展翅搏擊一片廣闊的藍天,大樹張臂撐開一片涼爽的晴空,花兒綻放開出一片絢麗的天地。而我卻要自己的夢想去開辟一片屬于我自己的天空。

  我得感謝上蒼是它賜予我永恒的生命,讓我降臨于滾滾紅塵中,能夠去感受父母的深切關愛,能夠去享受無限的家庭溫馨;我更感謝書本,是他讓我在知識的海洋里遨游,讓我感受到了文化的魅力與生命的美好。

  記得在我牙牙學語時,父母就開始念叨:“書山有路勤為徑,學海無涯苦作舟”。這大概也是我對書本最初也是最早的詮釋吧!再稍微長大一點,天真幼稚的我便早已是滿腦子的抱負與理想,也為此付出了心血與汗水。

  夢想是美好的,是讓人自豪的。擁有了夢想,你就要對你的夢想作出詮釋:昨天已逝去,我們可以把昨天的回憶記下,回憶昨天的一切,無論我們的昨天是否為理想埋下了伏筆、是否為夢想打下了基礎、是否為理想付出了努力……今天正在我們的腳下,我們在今天可以為昨天的理想繼續鋪路,為昨天的理想繼續努力,為昨天的理想繼續拼搏,無論你是否付出了行動,還是在彷徨不定,明天還未來臨,我們可以暢想明天的理想旅程,可以暢想對明天的憧憬與期盼……

  人生是一場馬拉松,越到最后便越能看出一個人的毅力和堅強。為了夢想,我們奔跑著,一路揮灑我們的汗水;為了夢想,我們堅持著,手握著那一份可貴的執著大步邁開雙腿;為了夢想,我們努力著,迎著初升的朝陽擁抱明天……然而,在追夢的路上,失敗、挫折不斷地阻撓著我們,身邊人們懷疑的目光處處包圍著我們,能沖破這重重阻礙到達終點的,又有多少人呢?雖然很艱難,但我想做那其中的一個。

  做到這樣很難嗎?不,其實很簡單,只要向著一個你認定的方向執著地走下去,總有一天你會看見等待在那里的你想要的一切美麗的東西。你會看見你的家人臉上溢滿幸福,他們以你為自豪,以你為驕傲!那時的你,會面帶自信的微笑面對世界,然后大聲地說:“我做到了,我是成功者!”

  追尋夢想的途中,孤單、寂寞總是無時無刻不在包圍著你。離開了家,我們踏上征途,又有誰可以依靠呢?可以依靠的當然只有我們自己。不要覺得傷心難過,當你有時間黯然神傷,你的競爭對手早已在遠方給你拋下一個嘲笑般的背影。你要咬著牙告訴自己:就算全世界都不能給予你任何幫助,你也可以堅強地一直走下去!是的,無論如何,最可靠的、最值得信賴的、最值得依賴的人始終是你自己,你要記住這一點。

  大家好!今天我演講的題目是《最初的夢想》。

  童年,我喜歡爬山,學牧童吹笛;我喜歡玩水,學男孩作派;我喜歡游戲,男一女類都玩;我喜歡運動,跳繩和皮筋。然而對于何為夢想?直到入學后,在老師的教導下,在長輩的關愛下,夢想似乎就是成為一名成績出眾的好學生,我也努力認真,自然是實現了夢想的犀利孩,但這樣的夢想總是缺少了點內涵。

  少年,當稍我懂事時,我才有了夢的雛形。文字有種特別的吸引力,我也愿意把時間花在看連環畫、故事會上,少年時的文字夢就一直這樣的做著,影響了我以后的成長的道路。

  青年,文字的夢逐漸從青澀走向成熟,然而學業上的兩次失敗,使我的文字夢漸行漸遠,我也嘗試過用寫作來療解成長的煩惱。的確,當文字得到了別人的肯定時,我歡欣過,而當我追求另一個高度時,我常常陷入悲望。幸好我看過《史記》,列傳里的英雄人物個個都飽受過不同程度的磨難和失敗,才實現了夢想。而我和他們一樣又不一樣,都有權利做夢,但我沒有堅韌不撥的毅力。有挫折的夢一放入歷史當中比較,便淹沒了當初的悲望。這點痛不算什么,我們本來就是在和煩惱作對的,人生的意義和價值才能夠體現,文字夢迫使我去理解人生,迫使我面對苦難,我就慢慢脫變成熟。同時也學會了享受文字夢。

  如今,這個文字夢依然再做,有空時跑圖書館,學習寫作的技巧,培養藝術欣賞能力,也嘗試過把文章投往知名雜志,總是悲多喜少,我忍受失敗的承受力就越來越強。當然我繼繼努力,成為作家的夢也許還有很長的一段路要走,但成為直正的業余寫手卻只有一步之遙。我已經在悲望中看到了希望。

  最初的夢想一直與我的成長同行,雖然童年親近山水的夢是不自覺的,是本性使然,誰又能說我不是在做文字的夢,有位作家說過:“山水是大地的文章,讀懂了山水便學會了寫文章。”真犀利啊!我正在做的最初的夢想竟然具有無意識性、被迫性和自覺性。這就是夢的三要素啊,原來我對成長的理解,我對人生的思考,就是在這三要素的內驅下完成的。

  金秋的風吹送著陣陣涼爽,空中飄著幾絲白云,我們踏上了軍訓的道路,軍訓已開始,我們奮斗的日子拉開了序幕。軍訓是高中的起跑線,我人生新的里程碑,我一定要走好這一步,絕不能在起跑線上留下半點遺憾。

  懷著滿滿的信心,我開始了苦樂交織的軍訓生活。我跟著教官的口令,一步一個腳印積極地訓練著,不怕同學們的哄笑,更不能怕教官的批評。絕不因為嘲笑與輕視而磨滅自己的理想,我一步步練著,我知道我做的不是最好的,但我可以肯定,只要能吃苦,能堅持,一定能獲得成功。翻開中外幾千年歷史畫卷,不難發現,大凡有卓越成就的人都經歷過人生的風風雨雨。何不把他人的嘲笑化成我們前進的動力呢!

  大家好!

  我叫zz,是六年級3班一名小隊員,今天,我演講的題目是我的理想。

  每個人都有自己的理想,當然我也不例外。小時候,在我那小小的百寶箱中,也裝著五彩繽紛的理想。今天我就打開我的百寶箱,把里面的寶貝一一拿給你看。

  很小的時候,我就有了我的第一個理想。當一名女警察。小時候的理想現在想起來既可笑又幼稚。當時的我其實是喜歡上了女警察們漂亮的警服,和她們站在馬路中央指揮交通時的颯爽英姿。可是不久,我的理想就發生了改變,因為我逐漸了解了當一名女警察的辛苦與困難。

  于是,當一名畫家成為了我的第二個理想。從小我就對繪畫很敏感,很喜歡畫畫,經常自己畫出一些“大作”,然后拿給爸爸媽媽看。爸爸媽媽得知了我喜歡畫畫,馬上就給我報了美術班。可能是因為小孩子貪玩兒的天性。上了美術班后的我變得不怎么喜歡畫畫了。甚至上美術課時逃跑去和同學玩兒。就這樣,我的第二個理想便又化為泡影。

  直到我有了第三個理想時,我已經上了小學4年級。那時的理想是當一名老師。從小到大我接觸過好多好多老師,有年齡大的、資歷老的;也有年輕的、經驗少的。但不管他們是什么樣的老師,教哪一門學科,我都非常喜歡他們。將來也想像他們一樣站在高高的講臺上給我的學生們授課。

  如今我已經是一個六年級的學生了。快要步入中學的殿堂。如今的我,已不是一個什么都不懂的小孩子;如今的我,對一些事已有了自己獨到的見解和想法。現在我的理想是做一個對社會有貢獻的人。或許你會說,這并不算是什么理想。但是在這漫長的學習生涯中,我不敢肯定我的理想會不會再改變。但是我敢肯定的是,我始終不變的,就是要做一個對社會、對全人類有貢獻的人。

  現在有不少學生經常高談闊論自己的遠大理想和抱負。但往往沒有做好身邊一些應該做好的小事。甚至對一些基本的社會公德都沒有做到。我們要實現自己的理想,就要從身邊的小事做起,從自身做起,不能有著“不以善小而不為,不以惡小而為之。”的想法。要腳踏實地地為自己的理想奠定基礎。最終才能實現它!

  可能你的理想多如繁星,可能你的理想永世不變,但是不管我長大要做什么職業,做什么工作,對自己的要求唯有一條永遠不會改變,那就是,要從小事做起,總自身做起。做一個對社會和全人類有貢獻的人!

Growing up, I am constantly learning from, and found my real dream, and found that for the motherland and the people to contribute to the dream, that is, as a teacher.

  I know, no matter how brilliant it is only words of wisdom and passion of the moment, only to learn the road to success is to open in the flowers. So, I will study hard, work hard to achieve my dream and work hard. I believe that the dream though very far away, but as long as the stick to action to realize there will be one day!

  Martin Luther King, Jr.: "I Have a Dream"

  I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

  Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.

  But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languished in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land. And so we've come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.

  In a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the "unalienable Rights" of "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds."

  But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. And so, we've come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.

  We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of Now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God's children.

  It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. This sweltering summer of the Negro's legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. And those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. And there will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.

  But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.

  The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. And they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom.

  We cannot walk alone.

  And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead.

  We cannot turn back.

  There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "When will you be satisfied?" We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality. We can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. We cannot be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote. No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until "justice rolls down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream."¹

  I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh from narrow jail cells. And some of you have come from areas where your quest -- quest for freedom left you battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of police brutality. You have been the veterans of creative suffering. Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive. Go back to Mississippi, go back to Alabama, go back to South Carolina, go back to Georgia, go back to Louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed.

  Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends.

  And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

  I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

  I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

  I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

  I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

  I have a dream today!

  I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of "interposition" and "nullification" -- one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.

  I have a dream today!

  I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; "and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together."²

  This is our hope, and this is the faith that I go back to the South with.

  With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.

  And this will be the day -- this will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with new meaning:

  My country 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing.

  Land where my fathers died, land of the Pilgrim's pride,

  From every mountainside, let freedom ring!

  And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true.

  And so let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire.

  Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York.

  Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of

  Pennsylvania.

  Let freedom ring from the snow-capped Rockies of Colorado.

  Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California.

  But not only that:

  Let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia.

  Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee.

  Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi.

  From every mountainside, let freedom ring.

  And when this happens, when we allow freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual:

  Free at last! free at last!

  Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!

  弗羅斯特說過,“一片樹林里分出兩條路--而我選擇了人跡更少的一條,從此決定了我一生的道路。”這句話正是要告訴我們面對自己的人生道路要堅定,走了下去,就不能回頭。夢想也一樣,它決定了你的一生,所以在面對目標的選擇時,要慎重,因為一個錯誤的目標會帶你走上不歸路。

  樂觀積極的心態

  夢想,是我們美好的向往。可我們在向往的同時,也會知道,它離我們很遙遠,要經歷許多的磨難才能到達它的頂峰。如果我們不保持樂觀積極的心態,就難以通過難關的考驗。

  面對一切打擊,都要用最好的面貌去迎接。不要氣餒,更不要放棄。即使它帶給你致命的打擊,也要樂觀的去面對。因為只有這樣,才能使夢想的距離離我們更近!

  鍥而不舍的意志

  在開往夢想的旅程中,會有很多很多的絆腳石和困難,大多數人會因為那些困難的打擊而放棄自己向往的殿堂,只有那少數人能夠臨危不懼的面對困難。即使在這條路上你會失去很多東西,但只要堅持不懈,鍥而不舍的走下去,你就會獲得的更多,更豐富的精神財富。

  一旦放棄,就再也不能實現自己的夢想;一旦放棄,之前一切的付出都會毀于一旦;一旦放棄,就只能驚羨地看著那些面對困難永不低頭的勇者享受著別人給他們的掌聲;一旦放棄,我們的人生就不再有意義!

  確定了人生的目標,才可能選擇生活的道路,進而才能夠掌握、控制自己的人生,有什么樣的目標,就有什么樣的人生,成功的人是最有理想、最明智,也是最有毅力、最堅定,希望我們每—個人從現在開始就制定人生目標,從點滴做起,落實人生目標。

  古人云:“有志者,事竟成。”所謂志,就是指—個人為自己確立的“遠大志向”,確立的人生目標。人生目標,是生活的燈塔,力量的源泉,如果失去了它,就會迷失前進的方向。確定了人生的目標,才可能選擇生活的道路,進而才能夠掌握、控制自己的人生。

  有了目標,人生就變的充滿意義,—切似乎清晰、明朗地擺在你的面前。什么是應當去做的,什么是不應當去做的,為什么而做,為誰而做,所有的要素都是那么明顯而清晰。于是生活便會添加更多的活力與激情。使我們自身隱匿的潛能得到充分地迸發,為實現高素質的人生打下堅實的基礎。

  追憶歷史,任何年代,任何國家,社會結構都接近—種金字塔狀。大量的人處在金字塔的底部,只有—小部分人處在金字塔的頂部。處在底部的人只能做普通的工作,有普通的收入,實現不了自己的理想和包袱,而處在塔頂的人則是蒸蒸日上,享受豐厚的財富,發展前途不可限量。然而人們往往忽視了,這些身處塔頂的人,曾經也處在底部,是—個默默無聞、普普通通的人,—步—步地攀上了金字塔的頂部。

  細心觀察—下,社會上絕大多數人的—生都在平庸中度過,盡管他們也在辛勤勞動,終身奮斗不止,但是只能扮演無足輕重的次要角色,其根本原因在于他們缺乏真正的內動力。社會的要求,別人的約束,使他們對待生活、工作還算盡責,卻很少去想怎樣才能夠讓自己的人生有翻天覆地的變化。也就是說,處在金字塔底部的大多數人與處在金字塔頂部的少數人相比,差距就在于眼光的高度,在于人生的目標。

  有什么樣的目標,就有什么樣的人生。或許你覺得自己現在的地位是多么卑微,或者從事的工作是多么的微不足道,但是只要你強烈地渴望攀登成功的巔峰,將自己擺在整個社會的宏觀世界之中,認真做好人生定位,明確奮斗目標,并愿意為此付出艱辛的努力,那么總有—天你會如愿以償,獲得成功。

  人生目標可分為長遠目標和短期目標。如果—個人沒有長遠目標,那么他的人生將是盲目的,—切的努力都將是無用功。但如果—個人沒有短期的目標,他將不知道自己每天要做些什么,腳步不知道朝什么方向邁出。將人生的長遠目標劃分成—個個節點,就成了每—個時期的短期目標,仿佛人生的驛站。所有的短期目標都指向同—個方向,為長遠目標做基礎,這就是所有成功的人所遵循的公式。

  “千里之行,始于足下”。即使有了目標,實現它也需要—個過程。成功的人是最有理想、最明智,也是最有毅力、最堅定。他們懂得—切的成功都不是—蹴而就的,都需要通過艱苦卓絕的努力,不斷地改進和提高;成功的人絕不會只以事情做完為滿足,而會要求自己不斷地做得更好,以獲取更大的成功。

  希望我們每—個人從現在開始就制定人生目標,從點滴做起,落實人生目標。拋棄那種無聊地重復著自己平庸的生活,努力去挖掘自己內在的潛力,激發自己的閃光點,相信是金子不論在哪里遲早都會發光的道理,不管遇到什么艱難險阻,終究會取得成功。新生活就從確定目標之日開始。

  在追夢的旅途中,無人能一帆風順,總會遇到各種各樣的坎坷和挫折,我們要學會勇敢地面對困難,向自己的夢想不斷努力。

  每個人都有自己的夢想,我的夢想就是好好學習,將來考上好大學,做一個對社會有用的人。蘇格拉底曾說過:“世界上最快樂的事,莫過于為理想而奮斗。”是啊,一個人有了夢想,便會向著夢想不斷努力,旅途中獲得的喜悅和收獲,不就是追夢的道路上最快樂的事嗎?為了夢想而努力,你的人生將會變得更加精彩!

  在我追求夢想的道路上,坎坷和挫折是難免的:每次成績測試,我總拿不到自己理想的成績,雖然不會太差,也不會太糟糕,但我每當看到別的同學的卷紙上寫著又大又紅的“98”、“99”、“100”時,我是很多羨慕他們啊!他們的好成績好像每次都是信手拈來,又每次總是那樣滿心喜悅。而,我的試卷上卻有幾個刺眼的錯號,看著那些錯號,它們仿佛在嘲笑我、譏諷我。我曾一次次地尋找原因,并發誓通過自己的努力,讓那些嘲笑和譏諷我的錯號從我的試卷上永遠消失。書山有路勤為徑,學海無涯苦作舟。我相信只要努力,心懷夢想,就一定可以到達勝利的彼岸。

  每個人都有自己的夢想,只要我們的夢想能持久,就一定能成為現實!

  i am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

  five score years ago, a great american, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the emancipation proclamation. this momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. it came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.

  but one hundred years later, the negro still is not free. one hundred years later, the life of the negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. one hundred years later, the negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. one hundred years later, the negro is still languished in the corners of american society and finds himself an exile in his own land. and so we've come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.

  in a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check. when the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the constitution and the declaration of independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every american was to fall heir. this note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the "unalienable rights" of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." it is obvious today that america has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. instead of honoring this sacred obligation, america has given the negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds."

  but we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. we refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. and so, we've come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.

  we have also come to this hallowed spot to remind america of the fierce urgency of now. this is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. now is the time to make justice a reality for all of god's children.

  from every mountainside, let freedom ring and when this happens, when we allow freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of god's children, black men and white men, jews and gentiles, protestants and catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old negro spiritual:free at last! free at last!

  Thank god almighty, we are free at last!
